Job Summary
Under the general guidance of the County Manager the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all installation, repair, and upkeep operations of the county facilities. The supervisor ensures that their co-workers have the best physical resources available to complete their duties according to the allotted budget. Additionally, the supervisor should have a solid understanding of plumbing and electrical systems as well as carpentry and other crafts, experienced in using a wide variety of power tools, hand tools, carpet steaming equipment, and ground maintenance equipment. Responsible for preventative maintenance but may have to make large repairs as well, may work with harsh chemicals, so must be familiar with safety best practices. This position oversees Cibola County Safety Committee.
Work Environment
Majority of work is performed indoors in a temperature-controlled environment. Some essential duties require the worker to perform outdoors where you will be exposed to natural weather conditions. Employee performs work on an even surface, which may be carpeted, or tiled. Outdoor duties may be performed on even or uneven surfaces which may be wet or dry. Outdoor duties may be performed on surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, natural ground, ice, snow, gravel, or roof tops. Use of ladders and scaffolding may be also required. Worker is exposed to occasional vibration and noise factor while performing maintenance and repair duties. Facilities Maintenance Supervisors remain on their feet for much of the day. The job will entail walking, lifting, moving, cleaning regularly. Hazards or potential hazards of the job include use of cleaning equipment, such as buffer, climbing a ladder or staircase, working on wet or slippery surfaces, and working with a wide variety or potentially harmful chemicals.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
At least five (5) years preferred of progressively responsibility and experience in Supervision of employees.
At least five (5) years preferred of progressively responsibility and experience in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, custodial, heating and air conditioning work.
Competent in problem solving, team building, planning and decision making.
Experience in planning maintenance operations.
Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities.
Ability to work independently of daily supervision and to exercise discretionary judgement and thinking.
Must have a valid New Mexico driver’s license. For out of state driver’s license, must obtain a valid New Mexico driver’s license within six (6) months of employment.
May not have any DWI or DUI within the last five (5) years.
Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background investigation.
Ability to listen, understand and communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Able to organize and prioritize work, use of time efficiently.
This position requires residing in Cibola County and the ability to comply with safety guidelines and policies of the County.
