Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance

The Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance outlines the procedure for minimizing damage to property from floods. Development permits are required for any development in flood plain areas. Development includes any man-made changes  such as: buildings or structures, mining, dredging, filling, grading, paving, excavation, or drilling operations, or storage of equipment or other materials.

Areas subject to inundation by the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event generally determined using approximate methodologies. Because detailed hydraulic analyses have not been performed, no Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) or flood depths are shown. Mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements and floodplain management standards apply.

AE

Areas subject to inundation by the 1-percent-annual-chance flood event determined by detailed methods. Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) are shown. Mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements and floodplain management standards apply.

X

Minimal risk area outside the 1-percent and .2-percent-annual-chance flood plains.  No mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements apply, but coverage is available in participating communities.

D

Unstudied areas where flood hazards are undetermined but flooding is possible. No mandatory flood insurance purchase requirements apply, but coverage is available in participating communities.
