This position is to serve as the working supervisor of the Cibola County Road Crew and is responsible for maintenance of county roads within Cibola County under the supervision of the County Road Superintendent. Incumbent in this classification requires considerable knowledge of road maintenance and heavy equipment operations. This position requires experience with personnel and is responsible for directing the activities of all Cibola County Road Department personnel. The work includes developing work plans and cost estimates; and assigning, supervising, and inspecting the work of crews engaged in activities including maintenance of drainage areas and structures, paved roads, and in some cases gravel roads. The work also includes responsibility for maintenance and care of all equipment. This position is designated as essential and, as such, all duties associated with this job are required during emergency situations which may include but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, emergency operations and extended work hours.
The nature of duties may involve the continuous presence of unpleasant or irritation elements, such as considerable noise, odors, chemical fumes, traffic, dust, smoke, heat, cold, oil, dirt, or grease. Work is continually performed outdoors, regardless of weather conditions. At times you may be required to work past regularly scheduled hours and/or weekends.
Plan, supervise and coordinate daily highway department operation and projects. This is a “working foreman” position and requires ability to operate all county equipment and perform the same jobs as other department employees when necessary.
Assign work activities, projects, and programs; review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures: meet with staff to identify and resolve problems.
Supervise road personnel to obtain top quality workmanship, efficiency, employee satisfaction and morale. Oversee employee training requirements.
Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of road construction and maintenance.
Oversee operations of large on-road and off-road heavy-duty equipment such as grader, bulldozer, scraper, service truck, water truck, lo-boy tractor/trailer, dump truck, and loader to excavate, load and haul dirt fill.
High School Diploma or GED that is equivalent of the standards of the NM Public Education Department and is recognized by said department as an accredited diploma or GED.
Valid Class A or Class B New Mexico CDL Driver’s license.
Considerable knowledge of road construction and maintenance.
Considerable experience in directing and supervising personnel.
Ability to work within the safety policy of Cibola County.
Ability to work outdoors exposed to all-natural weather conditions.
May not have any DWI or DUI within the last five years.
Pass a pre-employment drug test, physical, and background investigation.
Able to organize and prioritize work; use of time efficiently.
Must reside within reasonable commuting distance of the worksite.
